Leap

J. and I knew one another in Seattle in the late 1970’s through the ‘80’s. We first met when we lived in the same group house, where he shared a room with his girlfriend and I started dating G., who I later married. Then G. and I moved across the country, and I lost contact with J. for nearly 22 years, until I searched for him on Facebook. Then began the delicate dance of discovering one another again. Knowing him then, knowing him now with this huge gap in between makes for a strange layering of time. I can have my arms around him now and see very clearly, feel very precisely, the young man he was. For us there has been no progression. We have not changed gradually but have leapt forward to this time.
