“No sun – no moon – no morn – no noon, no dawn- no dusk – no proper time of day, No warmth – no cheerfulness – no health of ease, No road, no street, no t’other side of way, No comfortable feel in any member, No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees, No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds, November.” –
Thomas Hood.*
It’s an interesting approach, defining a month by absences. So far, I’d say, this particular November feels instead to be teetering on the edge of something very definite and present, though it’s nature is not yet clear. It’s the eve of a national election and no one knows what tomorrow will bring. I’m nervous, I’m nervously hopeful. I want more yes’s.
*He goes on with the no’s; this is not the entire poem; apologies Mr. Hood.
